Outdoor fire is how you get April and November back. This collection covers everything from a fire table you can put on the patio this weekend to a built-in outdoor fireplace that turns a yard into a room.

Fire tables and bowls

A fire table is furniture with a flame in it. It sits in the middle of your seating, so everyone gets the warmth and dinner does not end when the temperature drops. Most run 50,000 to 80,000 BTU on either propane, with a tank hidden in the base and no installation at all, or natural gas once you have a line. See our outdoor guide for the propane-versus-natural-gas decision and deck clearances.

Built-in outdoor fireplaces

An outdoor fireplace is architecture rather than furniture. Units like the Napoleon Riverside and Galaxy, the Regency Horizon Outdoor, and the Barbara Jean linear series get framed into a structure, finished in stone or panel, and connected to natural gas. They create a wall and a focal point, which is what makes a patio feel like a room.

Burners for custom builds

If a landscape designer is building the surround, we also carry standalone burners in widths from 24 to 96 inches, so the fire feature can be built to the drawing rather than bought off a shelf.

The rules in Toronto

Everything here is certified for outdoor use, which is what makes a fire table acceptable on a wood deck when the manual's clearances are followed. Keep a metre from combustibles, never run an outdoor appliance in a garage or enclosed porch, and remember that any natural gas connection is work for a TSSA-certified technician. On a condo balcony, your board's rules decide before the fire code does. Our outdoor guide covers all of it.

Frequently asked questions

Generally yes, if the table is certified for outdoor use and you follow the clearances in its manual. Certified tables are built with heat shielding under the burner for exactly this. Keep at least a metre from railings and anything combustible.

Propane needs no installation and lets you move things around, but costs more per hour and the tank runs out. Natural gas is cheaper and endless, but the line must be run and connected by a TSSA-certified technician and the appliance stays put.

Usually not with propane. Storage restrictions and most building rules rule out tanks on balconies above the ground floor. Check your condo declaration and rules before buying anything with a flame.

Yes, they are built for weather. Use a fitted cover, keep the burner media dry, store a disconnected propane tank outdoors, and check the burner ports and igniter in spring before the first light.
