Gaslogs

A vented gas log set is the simplest way to retire firewood without losing the open hearth. Detailed ceramic logs sit on a burner inside your existing fireplace, and because the flames climb through the logs the way a real fire does, this is the most realistic flame of any gas product.

The honest part

A log set is not a heater. The manufacturer's own instructions require the chimney damper to stay fully open whenever it burns, so most of the heat goes up the chimney, exactly like a wood fire. What you are buying is the ritual: no wood to haul, no ash, no creosote. If you want heat from that opening, you want a gas insert instead. One important local note: vent-free log sets are not permitted in Canada under the CSA B149.1 gas code, so anything you see shipped from a US retailer as ventless cannot be legally installed here. Everything we carry from RH Peterson is vented.
