The honest part
A vented log set is not a heater. The manufacturer's own instructions require the damper to stay fully open whenever it burns, so most of the heat goes up the chimney, exactly like a wood fire. Not really, and that is by design. The chimney damper must stay fully open while a vented log set burns, so most of the heat goes up the chimney. Buy a log set for the look and the convenience; buy an insert if you want heat.
