Cast stone is the mantel material we install more than any other, and the reason is that it reads as carved stone at a fraction of the weight and cost. It takes crisp detail, it suits both classic and contemporary rooms, and it makes a fireplace look built rather than installed.

More than decoration

A mantel does real work. A shelf that projects 15 cm (6 in) or more from the wall interrupts rising heat and pushes it out into the room, which is what protects a TV mounted above. Our TV above a fireplace guide covers the clearances and the mantel-height numbers.

Getting the fit right

Mantels are sized to the fireplace opening and the wall, not the other way round, so this is a measure-first product. Bring dimensions and photos, or better, let us look at the space.

Frequently asked questions

Typically around 137 cm (54 in) from the hearth floor, but the binding number comes from your fireplace's manual: its clearance chart specifies how close a combustible mantel of a given depth may sit above the unit.

In most cases, yes, but the fireplace's clearance requirements decide the mantel's height and how far it may project. We size the mantel to the unit rather than picking one and hoping.
